Newly elected Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Hon. Danny Philip, has pledged to work closely with the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) to ensure his nation continues its progress toward a stable society.

The Solomon Islands held a general election in early August that saw Danny Philip emerge as a likely replacement to Dr Derek Sikua. Philip succeeded in taking over yesterday after weeks of number counting among his political peers. Read more »

Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) security forces have killed a Solomon Islands man on the outskirts of Honiara on Thursday. The incident has sparked an investigation by both Royal Solomon Islands Police Force and RAMSI itself.

It is the first time RAMSI personnel have been responsible for the death of a Solomon Islander since Pacific regional military and police forces were deployed to the Solomons in 2003. Read more »

So, when I was asked to review a book of a similar nature but from the Solomon Islands, I was happy to oblige.

Being the First – Storis Blong Oloketa Mere Lo Solomon Aelan profiles the stories of 14 outstanding women revealing their intimate moments, their struggles and the highs they’ve faced during their lives.  I could relate to this brief because that’s exactly what I based my book on.

Solomons: RAMSI flies ballot papers to Malaita

RAMSI’s Participating Police Force (PPF) has assisted the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission deliver ballot papers to Malaita Province in time for Wednesday’s poll.

A PPF helicopter flew to Auki on Monday and then onto a number of remote constituencies in Malaita including East and West Are Are, North Malaita, Small Malaita and Lau Baelelea to deliver ballot papers and other election materials after the Electoral Commission made an urgent request for assistance. A new photographic exhibition is set to showcase the history and achievements of one of the Pacific’s biggest success stories, the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

The exhibition, RAMSI: A history in pictures will be launched this week in Port Vila, Vanuatu as part of the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting. The exhibition covers the history and progress achieved by RAMSI in partnership with the Solomon Islands Government– and the people, places and events that have shaped this unique regional mission since it commenced in Vanuatu’s close neighbour of Solomon Islands in 2003. Tonga & Samoa officially thanked for helping rebuild Solomon Islands

Tonga and Samoa have been officially thanked by the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) for the two nations’ commitment toward rebuilding the Solomon Islands since 2003.

RAMSI issued a statement this week noting the hundreds of Samoans and Tongans who have helped make the Solomons more stable since civil unrest, murder and violence between sectarian inter-island groups and militia drove the Melanesian state to its knees in the years leading up to 2003. Read more »
