Global Climate Leaders to Discuss Path for NZ

350 Aotearoa is proud to host 350.org international executive director, May Boeve, and Hon James Shaw at their Wellington event, ‘Building Our Fossil Free Future: A national and international perspective’.

Boeve and Shaw will discuss the political and social aspects of the challenges and opportunities of climate change, and ideas to move New Zealand to a just, low-carbon future, beyond fossil fuels. The event comes just a week after the Ministry for the Environment briefed incoming climate minister, Hon Shaw stating that “Climate change is going to require action across many parts of the economy”.

May Boeve has been called a Next Generation Leader in TIME magazine for her leadership in the fossil fuel divestment movement. She co-founded 350.org along with Bill McKibben and works with a team of 120 activists in a network across 188 countries building the climate action movement. She was recently awarded the 2017 JFK New Frontier Award.

Climate Change Minister Hon James Shaw believes that New Zealand can lead the world in transitioning to a high-value, clean-tech, post-carbon economy that works for everyone. He recently returned from COP23 where he stated, ‘We will be one of those countries that will become a net-zero economy by 2050’.
Mahina-ā-rangi Baker (Ngãti Raukawa ki te tonga, Te Atiawa ki Whakarongotai, Ngati Toarangatira), environmental consultant and board member of 350 Aotearoa will be hosting the evening.

When: 7pm, Wednesday, 13th December
Where: GBLT1, Victoria University of Wellington Law School, 33 Bunny Street, Wellington 6011
