ASIA: Weekly Roundup, Episode 95

This week AHRC TV first turns to the Philippines, where civil society organisations, including the Asian Human Rights Commission, recently launched a campaign to stop military harassment and killings of Lumads, an indigenous group in Mindanao. Massive displacement and over a dozen killings have been committed this year by military and paramilitary groups in the area.

AHRC TV next speaks to human rights defender Adilur Rahman Khan about Bangladesh’s descent into lawlessness and terror and far-reaching government crackdowns on civil society organisations in the country.

Continuing on the theme of the importance of functioning criminal justice institutions, AHRC TV next airs an exclusive interview with AHRC’s Basil Fernando, conducted by Per Lagerström from Stockholm-based International Legal Assistance Consortium.

Finally, AHRC TV reports on the shooting of two indigenous Papuans by security forces in the eastern Indonesian province of Papua. The AHRC has documented frequent police brutality in the Papua and West Papua provinces of Indonesia.

The bulletin can be watched online at AHRC TV YouTube. We welcome both human rights feeds to be considered for weekly news bulletin, and your suggestions to improve our news channel. Please write to news@ahrc.asia. You can also watch our Weekly Roundup on Facebook.
