John Hayes MP Leads Trade Mission to Papua New Guinea
Parliamentary Private Secretary for Foreign Affairs, John Hayes, left for Papua New Guinea today to lead the 2014 NZ PNG Trade Mission to Port Moresby and Rabaul.
“New Zealand and Papua New Guinea are long standing partners in the Pacific. We work together on a raft of issues, and this mission is designed to improve our business to business links”, Mr Hayes said.
“The value of business that comes out of these missions is well within the tens of millions, so it is important to introduce and reacquaint New Zealand businesses with contacts in Port Moresby.
“Papua New Guinea has a rapidly growing economy due to its mineral and energy reserves, which is driving the demand for quality products and services”, Mr Hayes said.
“In more recent years there has been a significant renewed interest from New Zealand companies in this market. It is fantastic to see some new companies on the mission looking to do business in the Pacific.
“These missions really highlight the excellent relationship New Zealand companies and government agencies have with their counterparts in Papua New Guinea”, Mr Hayes said.
The 2014 NZ PNG Trade Mission runs from the 4 – 10 August and will take the delegation to Port Moresby and Rabaul, meeting with the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, senior trade officials and local businesses.
