Like an amazing game of Jenga the stage schedule has been caressed and finessed to deliver a power punched festival that WOMAD goers will never forget.
Kicking things off on Friday evening will be a very special performance from Nga Tatarakihi o Parihaka (Children of Parihaka) with Tim Finn on the unparalleled lake fronted TSB Bowl stage. Followed by the smooth sounds from India’s Asif Ali Khan, Tunisia’s Emel Mathlouthi, Hawaii’s Makana and France’s Dub Inc turn the heat up at the Nova Energy Taste the World Stage. Music from another five countries then leads towards the Friday night zenith of the much-anticipated performance from Kimbra.
The weekend’s schedule is then punctuated by performances from well-known artists Femi Kuti on Saturday night and Arrested Development on Sunday evening. As is natural with WOMAD, there is always gold to be found between the cracks of what you know and there is certainly plenty to be mined in the 2014 programme.
A special addition to the schedule is Boomerang – a collaborative event to make its debut at WOMAD 2014. Indigenous cultures from throughout the Commonwealth come together to explore links between Celtic, Aboriginal and Maori cultures, through language, contemporary music and dance. Bagpipes meet taonga puoro and didgeridoo Boomerang features Breabach (Scotland), Moana and the Tribe with Horomona Horo (New Zealand: Aotearoa) and new additions to WOMAD Shellie Morris, Casey Donovan and traditional Aboriginal dancers and musicians.
Full artist profiles are on the WOMAD website with a new feature that allows you to save your “picks” to your own ‘My WOMAD’ list that can be shared with friends. Check it out, book your tickets and come fly your flag with us!
