Press Release – Ikana

Ikana Live Greenshell Mussels are hand-selected, cleaned, graded and packed fresh and live in modified atmosphere packaging with a 10-day shelf life to boot.MEDIA RELEASE MARCH 2012

Don’t Break a Sweat When Using Mussels!

Ikana Live Greenshell™ Mussels are hand-selected, cleaned, graded and packed fresh and live in modified atmosphere packaging – with a 10-day shelf life to boot.

What this means is that you can use Ikana Live Greenshell™ Mussels straight out of the packet, without any of the fuss of scrubbing and sorting through your mussels. Plus, because they’re been sustainably grown and hand-selected, your Ikana Mussels will be sweeter and smaller – ideal for gourmet cooking.

Ikana Live Greenshell™ Mussels are of such high calibre, that they’re now used in top restaurants around New Zealand including The Depot and The Grill. Since launching only a few short months ago, they’ve already become popular with top chefs and gourmet home cooks for their superior quality and ease of use.

Mussels don’t have to be a food banished to weekends at the bach or dining out. Ikana’s Mussels are so easy to use, they can become an everyday staple – and because they’re lower in fat and calories, but higher in protein, vitamins and minerals than beef – they’re a fantastic healthy choice!

Two years of research and development has resulted in Ikana’s unique modified atmosphere packaging, which provides a 10-day shelf life while retaining the mussels’ freshness and flavour. This revolutionary method of keeping mussels at their best allows people to use them from the fridge as and when they please – a fantastic innovation in the world of fresh shellfish.

Ikana’s Mark Ventress says the team was looking to develop a product that would be both more convenient and more delicious.

“First and foremost, we wanted to produce live mussels that are of the best quality – we hand-select them to make sure we’re providing a product that’s the best of the best. The restaurants we supply have been giving us great feedback on the quality of our mussels, and how easy they are to use. They’re just as simple to use at home, and you know they’re always going to turn out brilliantly!”

Ikana Live Greenshell™ Mussels are now available in supermarkets, in the chilled seafood food section.
