02 February, 2013

The 21st Pasifika Festival will take place on March 9 and 10 at Western Springs Park, Auckland. On Sunday March 10, the Samoa village will host the inaugural Samoa Voices Choir Competition.

This competition will be an opportunity for all Samoan choirs to demonstrate their musical gifts and talents. It is open to any Samoan choir from any denomination and region across the country. Choirs will be expected to prepare two choice pieces in which one must be in the gagana Samoa (Samoan language). There will be a guest judging panel to adjudicate the great display of talent.

“Samoans love singing. It is a part of our lifestyle. This competition aims to unite the Samoan community in fellowship and celebration. It is also an effective tool in retaining our precious language” – Te’evā Matāfai [Samoa Village Coordinator]

The competition is proudly supported by Radio 531pi. MAIN PRIZE: FREE STUDIO RECORDING for the BEST CHOIR. Registration Fee: $100 per choir. Registrations close: February 23, 2013.
