NZ Artists performing @ CMJ 2012:

Lawrence Arabia
Urbane, literate pop music from one of New Zealand’s foremost craft-persons of song.

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lawrence-Arabia

Shows: Tues 16 Oct, (le) Poisson Rouge, 6.30pm – Thurs 18 Oct, Alphabet Lounge, 7pm

Tom Lark
Tom Lark emerged out of the after shock of the Christchurch Earthquake when the disaster crushed their recording studio and melted their laptops. The band took to their bedrooms where they created sunlight starved tunes composed in musty jungle like surroundings.

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/TomLarkMusic

Shows: Tues 16 Oct, (le) Poisson Rouge, 6pm – Wed Oct 17, Trash Bar, 11pm

Popstrangers
Popstrangers are Joel Flyger, Adam Page and David Larson, three native New Zealanders who make “pop” music that’s hard-driving, punk-influenced and sonically inimitable. Their debut album is scheduled for release in early 2013.

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/popstrangers

Shows: Tues 16 Oct, (le) Poisson Rouge, 7.30pm – Thurs Oct 18, Cameo Gallery, 10pm

Ghostwave
The Ghost Wave sound finds itself somewhere between the Flying Nun bands of the 80s, the British explosion of the 1960s and the wayfaring dubs of Lee “Scratch” Perry. Sunny, loud, and laid back…

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ghostwave

Shows: Tues 16 Oct, (le) Poisson Rouge, 7pm – Fri 19 Oct, Knitting Factory, 10pm – Sat 20 Oct, Swat Bar, time tbc

Die! Die! Die!
Hailing from New Zealand’s iconic music city, Dunedin, founding Die! Die! Die! members Andrew Wilson and Michael Prain cut their teeth in the live music scene playing in noise bands and going on to form the band in 2003. Die! Die! Die! have always given their all at every show – the result being a band that brings persistent ferocity and energy to live performances.

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/diediedieband

Shows: Tues 16 Oct, (le) Poisson Rouge, 8pm – Tues 16 Oct, Trash Bar, 11pm

Six60
RCRD LBL said about Six60, “Blending rock with dubstep and other electronic sounds du jour and innovative combination of musical styles.”

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Six60

Shows: Tues 16 Oct, (le) Poisson Rouge, 8.30pm – Wed 17 Oct, Fat Baby, 10pm

Kimbra
Originating from Hamilton, New Zealand, Kimbra has been performing her jazz-inflected pop since she was 14. Rolling Stone said this of her debut album “Vows gives R&B a wacky art-rock spin, with a cappella vocal chorales mutating into sumptuous funk pop”.

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/kimbramusic

Shows: Fri Oct 19, Webster Hall, 8pm – Sat Oct 20, Webster Hall, 8pm

Opossom
Opossom is the brainchild of former Mint Chick Kody Nielson. The Fire Records album ‘Electric Hawaii’ is a CMJ Top 30 hit and has seen critics including NY Times Jon Pareles and UK magazines Uncut, Mojo and NME all raving about its unique mix of psychedelic fun.

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/OPOSSOM

Shows: Thurs Oct 18, Pianos, 9pm – Thurs Oct 18, Bar Matchless, time tbc – Sat Oct 20, Public Assembly, time tbc – Sat Oct 20, Pianos, time tbc.
