FUTA CAPTURED DREAMS OF TONGAN YOUTH, SAYS AUT PROFESSOR
AUT University’s foundation professor of Pacific studies today paid tribute to the legacy of Dr Futa Helu, emeritus professor of ‘Atenisi Institute, who died in Tonga this week aged 75.
“We honour the passing of Futa Helu – philosopher, academic, musician, artist, weaver of beautiful words, a man of great charm and humour, and colleague and friend,” said Tagaloatele Peggy Fairbairn-Dunlop of AUT’s Institute of Public Policy.
“In founding the ‘Atenisi Institute, Futa captured the imagination and dreams of generations of Tongan youth, inspiring youth to value what is Tongan in their search for truth and beauty.
“That is the Futa we will remember. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Helu family.”
