Media release: NorthTec arts students exhibit the fruits of their labours in shows around the region

The Northland region will be treated to a feast of creative output from NorthTec students at exhibitions around the region in November and December.

NorthTec students Claire Deighton, Lindsay Antrobus and Heiwari Johnson are currently exhibiting as part of the “Hotere Country” exhibition being staged at Village Arts Gallery in Kohukohu. “Hotere Country” features Ralph Hotere’s work “Song of Solomon” and is intended to honour, acknowledge and pay tribute to Hotere, who was himself born in Mitimiti, Hokianga. The NorthTec students chosen to be a part of the exhibition all have strong personal ties to the Hokianga.

Due to its popularity, the exhibition has recently been extended to finish on 8 November.

Rawene and Whangarei students are also hosting several exhibitions from the site specific one-day “Tauranga Tangata, Tauranga Toi” exhibition being held on 14 November to the “Digital Stirfry” exhibition at ENorth from 23-26 November.

Rawene applied arts student Harriet Stockman says that her students have been hard at work preparing for their exhibitions. “We’re excited by the work that’s been created.”

NorthTec’s Programme Manager – Arts and New Media Chris Carey says he’s proud of the talent and drive that NorthTec’s arts students have demonstrated during the year. “The end of year exhibitions are a chance for friends, family and the wider public to witness what a wonderful creative resource Northland has in its artists and to acknowledge their hard work and dedication.”
