Kiwi Malaysian Producer Alex Lee’s short film “Love & Luksaah” has been confirmed as a finalist in the Best Short Film category of the 5th Asian Festival of First Films (AFFF) to be held in Singapore 2-4 December. Media Release – 18th November 2009

“Love & Luksaah” flying Kiwi Malaysian flag at AFFF
Kiwi Malaysian Producer Alex Lee’s short film “Love & Luksaah” has been confirmed as a finalist in the Best Short Film category of the 5th Asian Festival of First Films (AFFF) to be held in Singapore 2-4 December.

Directed by first time Kiwi Malaysian director Mei Chan, the Kiwis are the only Kiwi finalists out of the 30 nominee hopefuls from 28 countries. Over 700 films were submitted for consideration.

The AFFF jury includes award winning filmmakers and internationally-acclaimed producers – Ana Kokkinos (Australia), Chris Lee (Hawaii) and Kabir Khan (India). The festival culminates in a grand, star-studded gala Awards Night at Raffles Hotel Ballroom on 4th December 2009 during which the results of the competition will be announced.

“Love and Luksaah” faces competition in the category from “Vaishnav Jan Toh”, “Certain Chapters”, “Kala Pul”, “Swayamsidhha”, “Ikaw Sana” and “Just Kabir”

Alex Lee said: “We are honoured by the nomination as this is a Pan-Asian film festival in the company of other nominees like well-known actor Nalalie Imbruglia and award-winners for previous work such as the Commonwealth VIsion Award, Leo Intel Award and a BAFTA nomination”.

He adds: “We believe that the nomination underlines the important Asian Diaspora in New Zealand and the growing Asian film and TV talent within New Zealand”.
