AUT brings more Pacific news to Scoop website

A new online Pacific media service, Pacific.Scoop, was launched today at AUT University’s Maori Expo by Scoop co-editor Selwyn Manning in a live video panel with Maori and Pacific communications students.

A partnership between Scoop Media and AUT’s Pacific Media Centre, Pacific Scoop is hosted on the existing Scoop website.

After all those years of yelling out “bring back Buck, bring back Buck”, he’s finally coming back.

Former All Black skipper Buck Shelford will be discussing New Zealand sport with other Māori sports stars including surfing champion Daniel Kireopa and Oceania football player of the century, Wynton Rufer, at the 2009 Māori Expo tomorrow.

AUT University Chancellor Sir Paul Reeves told Pacific.Scoop only 10 percent of students enrolling at AUT University are of Māori descent – but he said this was far better than most universities.

AUT also has almost as many Pacific Islands students.

It is time to put the rhetoric aside and focus on the true cost of human trafficking in the Pacific, say participants in an upcoming forum.

The New Zealand Prostitutes Collective and the Salvation Army say the numbers involved in human trafficking can sometimes be exaggerated and it’s time to present hard evidence.
